Governor of Maharashtra Mr. Vidyasagar Rao inaugurated the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Walkeshwar in Mumbai on 20 January 2015 along with Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development.
Mrs. Rajashree Birla said, “As part of our endeavour towards open defecation free villages, we have helped build 10,000 toilets in the hinterland of India, funding them, leveraging the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme and acting as catalysts. Much more needs to be done. We are scaling it up and we hope to support the setting up of 15,000 toilets this year. With the proactive measures of the Government, backed by progressive corporates, we should be able to dignify the lives of the underprivileged, providing them with the basics. We are fully committed to the Clean India Mission.”
