Healthcare is a genuine challenge in rural areas and the solution lies in technology. The Healthcube initiative uses a blend of digital technology and village social entrepreneurship to make proactive healthcare accessible to rural areas and labour migrants. Healthcube uses mobile technology and is simple to use. Its biggest benefit is making 32 diagnostics tests –including malaria, blood pressure and blood sugar – available at a nominal cost for the underprivileged.
The Healthcube initiative is supported by Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group company, and the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. An army of village social entrepreneurs has been created which goes door-to-door for health screening in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other states.
The platform has additional benefits to offer. All medical records are saved locally on the Healthcube and whenever internet is available, details are pushed to cloud for automated data analytics. Thus, doctor and patient can access the test report anywhere, anytime. The Healthcube project has been rolled out across 9 states and 150 locations, and the intent is to take it further.
