ICC Award for Social Responsibility conferred on Indo Gulf Fertilisers

Indo Gulf Fertilisers (A unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd.) bags the ICC Award for Social Responsibility (Category-I: Companies having annual sales revenue above Rs.5OO crore)

Indo Gulf Fertilisers, a unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited, was established in 1984. It manufactures urea under 'Birla Shaktiman' brand and diversified further to customized fertilizer; seeds and agrochemicals and animal nutrition business. Its manufacturing plant is located in Jagdishpur, district Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Indo Gulf Fertilizers has undertaken CSR activities in 115 villages in 5 blocks of Amethi, covering a population of 4.10 lakhs. The key initiatives are: A multi-specialty 50 bed hospital; Aditya Birla Public School; Leprosy Care Centre; Vocational Training Centre for imparting training/placement in trades like garments design, auto, electrical and computer operator; Project Anya for women empowerment; Nirmal Ghar under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan and Farmers Club programme. Besides, activities are undertaken in five main focus areas viz: Girl Child Education; Health; Sustainable livelihood; Infrastructural support; and Social Causes.

Indo Gulf Fertilisers is a unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd. The company was established in 1983 as a joint venture of UP Government and Gulf Consolidated Company for Services and Industries, Bahrain. In 1986, Gulf Consolidated backed out and Aditya Birla Group took over the project. Indo Gulf Fertilisers is situated at Jagdishpur Industrial Area (UP). The main products of the company are Urea and Neem Coated Urea. Corporate Social Responsibility of Indo Gulf Fertilisers is carried out under the aegis of the "Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development", led by Mrs. Rajashree Birla.

The CSR Vision of the company given by Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, is "to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which we operate. In doing so, build a better, sustainable way of life for the weaker sections of society and raise the country's human development index."

The focus is on the all-round development of the communities surrounding the plant. Indo Gulf Fertilisers has developed initiatives in focus areas namely: Health, Education, Infrastructure Development, Sustainable Livelihood and Social Cause. This include running a 50 bed Hospital and a Vocational Training Centre. The School is also set up in the premises for providing quality education for the children of the community as well as that of employees. As a result of this, CSR Programs during the last 5 years, the community around has been benefited immensely:

• Nearly 4.4 lakh patients from the community have benefitted through Hospital run by Indo Gulf Fertilisers
• Nearly 5650 students have received Education
• 755 youths have been trained in 4 trades namely: Electrical, Garments Design, Auto Mechanics and Electronics
• More than 2000 village girls have been given training on Tailoring and Stitching
• 76 farmers' clubs have been formed.
• 1235 adults have been trained on basic literacy
• 182 disabled and Leprosy cured patients have been given support to start a viable enterprise.

During the year 2015-16, Company has spent over 2 Crores towards Social Responsibility.
