Kabhi Kabhi Haath Uthana Zaroori Hai

A video that takes the #ChooseToChallenge idea into situations that most women will find relatable

Sometimes the simple act of raising one's hand can make a powerful difference. This year, Aditya Birla Group took the #InternationalWomensDay theme of #ChooseToChallenge to another level with the #HaathUthanaZarooriHai video.

The video takes a phrase – Haath Uthaoon Kya? – that connotes the physical violence and abuse that women face, and transforms it into an empowering statement.

#HaathUthanaZaroorihai is about women choosing to not hold back. It's choosing to challenge doubt, to raise our hand, take that step, make our voice louder, shore up our inner confidence, go for it!

The Haath Uthana video shines a light on typical situations that women face every day – at work, in social situations, while commuting. Often women find themselves being disregarded, almost invisible. And they wonder whether it is worthwhile to step forward and assert themselves – Haath Uthaoon Kya, they ask themselves. The answer is yes – Kabhi kabhi, haath uthana zaroori hai!

What makes the video extraordinarily relatable is the situations it depicts. The scenarios are typical experiences – women being brushed aside when catching a cab or an auto, passed over in a meeting, ignored when sports discussions are on, not considered as an equal when it comes to splitting a bill.

The message conveyed by this short 1.25 min video is that the simple act of raising your hand can challenge the bias, the stereotype, the norm. With concept and script by communication partner The Information Company (TIC), #HaathUthanaZarooriHai is that rare gender parity message – one that applies to all people.
