Aditya
Birla Group made its foray into value-added oleochemicals
in September 2005 through the acquisition of an
integrated fatty alcohol manufacturing facility,
located at 340 km south of Manila at Jose Panganiban
in the Camrines-Norte region in Philippines. The
facilities comprise 30,000 tpa natural detergents
alcohol, 55,000 tpa fatty acid, 6,500 tpa glycerin
and 80,000 tpa of oil pre-treatment plants.
The
fatty alcohol plant of PCSI employs state-of-the-art
low pressure hydrogenation technology from Davy
with flexibility to process both coconut and palm
kernel oil — this is the first plant in the
world to commercialise this technology which is
significantly superior to competing fatty alcohol
technologies. This cutting-edge technology, coupled
with locational advantage of being present in the
world's largest coconut oil producing country giving
access to cost effective uninterrupted supply of
coconut oil feedstock leading to superior product
quality, thus providing significant competitive
advantage to the company vis-à-vis competition.
The fatty alcohol plant has been supplying alcohol
to leading multinationals.
The
plant is equipped with a captive pier capable
of receiving 40,000 DWT ships with option for
receipts and dispatches by sea route using deep
sea tanks. The plant is also equipped with a captive
power plant to ensure uninterrupted supply of
electricity.
The
products fatty alcohol, fatty acids and pharmaceutical
grade glycerin find application in detergents,
cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and chemical industries.
