Established
in 1978, Thai Carbon Black (TCB) holds the distinction
of being one of the world's largest carbon black
plants at a single location. Additionally, the
company is also the leading manufacturer of carbon
black in Thailand.
TCB
has been listed among the world's "Best 200
Small Companies" by Forbes magazine in the
years 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. TCB is
the first company in Thailand to achieve the five
accreditations: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001,
ISO/TS 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025. A winner of the
prestigious Deming Prize for TQM from JUSE, Japan,
and the coveted TPM Excellence Award from JIPM,
Japan, in 2001, TCB has also won the Thailand
Prime Minister's Award for Safety and Labour Relations
in 2003 and 2004 as well as Best Welfare Management
Award for three consecutive years 2003, 2004 and
2005.
It
was selected as 'Best Employer in Thailand' and
ranked fifth in Asia by Hewitt associates in 2003.
It has also won Thailand's Quality Class Award
2002 and 2003, TPM Consistency Award and TPM Special
Award from JIPM, Japan, in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
In 2006, the company has won the "To Be Number
One Award", the Anti-Drug Project, promoted
by HRH Princess Ubonrattana of Thailand. TCB was
one of the only three companies to have been selected
as the "Best Performance Management Company"
in the industry category by the Stock Exchange
of Thailand in 2006. It has been winning the award
for the Best Quality of Life among the Aditya
Birla Group (Thailand) for the last eight consecutive
years. TCB's QC Groups have been selected for
representing Thailand in International QCC Presentations
for the last 15 consecutive years since 1994.
TCB
represents the Aditya Birla Group's first joint
venture between Indian and Thai investors. TCB
is the first company in carbon black business
of the Aditya Birla Group to go-live on SAP project
in April 2007. Marketed under the brand name 'Birla
Carbon', the company produces more than 220,000
tonnes per year of world-class furnace grade carbon
black at its sophisticated manufacturing plant
located in the Angthong Province of Thailand.
To
cope with the increasing demand of carbon black
in both domestic and overseas markets, Birla Carbon
has aggressive growth plans. These would include
Line #6 expansion project of TCB for the additional
capacity of 85,000 tpa. The project is expected
to be completed by second quarter of 2009.
Carbon
black is primarily used in rubber goods, such
as tyres and tubes for automobiles, flaps, conveyor
belts, etc. It is also used in ink, pigment and
plastic industries. With the world's top three
tyre manufacturers in its list of customers, namely,
Bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear, TCB has the
unique distinction of supplying carbon black to
all the six continents from a single location.
More than 50 per cent of Japans total carbon
black import is from TCB alone.
