Built on a 20-acre plot, the 30,000 sq. mt. facility comprises modern laboratories, multipurpose scale-up facilities and modelling and simulation areas. It also hosts the Knowledge Centre for the Group, which has access to patents, periodicals and other publications through global databases and serves as the Patent Cell providing services such as prior art searches, filing and litigation support.
At ABSTC, research and development is based on two strong capabilities. The Process Engineering and Sciences Laboratory focuses on advanced processes and designs, process control and automation, and process engineering platforms and scaleup. The Science and Technology Platforms Laboratory provides
expertise in metallurgy, fibre science and textiles, material and surface sciences, and chemistry. ABSTC is supported by the Analytical Science and Technology Laboratory, with state-of-the-art equipment that will enable advanced measurement and characterisation techniques. The analytical services laboratory will support all the needs of the Group units and, in the future, even those of external customers.
The Corporate Technical and Energy Services (CTES) is a
sister organisation of ABSTC and it provides services across
the Group for technical problem-solving and cost reduction by
means of energy conservation, waste heat recovery, optimisation
of manpower and material handling systems, improved
operational and maintenance practices, water conservation,
electrical systems, etc. CTES also provides support services for
heat transfer enhancement, thermography and trouble-shooting
for plant equipment.
It is actively involved in sharing knowledge and experiences through Group-wide benchmarking studies, and maintaining the critical equipment database. It organises corporate technical seminars and publishes newsletters and white papers on various technical issues. It also extends project execution support to Group units.
