Birla Copper, the copper division of Hindalco Industries, with its integrated facility at Gujarat, India, enjoys a leadership position in India. The unit has the unique distinction of being the largest copper smelter in the world at a single location with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum and world-class technologies.

The company's copper product range includes copper cathodes and continuous cast copper rods. Birla Copper also produces precious metals, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and other phosphoric fertilisers, and phosphogypsum.

R&D

The R&D focus is on providing cost-effective scientific and technical solutions for the Group's copper business through capacity enhancement associated with processes and equipment, improving production sustainability and minimising environmental impact.

The research strategy involves application of advanced science, technology and engineering platforms comprising fundamental process analysis, process modelling and simulation, computational fluid dynamics, process control, high temperature measurements and laboratory experiments.
