The strong ties between Aditya Birla Group and ThaiIand go back over 50 years, with the Group deeply entrenched in the nation’s industrial and cultural landscape. Over time, the Group has made a significant contribution to the country’s socio-economic development. Thailand is a key hub in its manufacturing network, and the Group has also established several initiatives that take forward its corporate responsibility vision. Last year, the Group’s CSR work in Thailand received appreciation from the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in the form of the CSR Excellence Recognition Award.
In a continuation of its CSR work in strengthening education, the Group has donated 22 computers to two local schools – Mahatma Gandhi Anusorn School in Sukhotai province and Sathya Sai School in Lopburi. An event recognising the contribution and celebrating the Group’s association with Thailand took place at the Embassy of India in Thailand.
The event was graced by Her Excellency, Mrs. Suchitra Durai, Ambassador of India to Thailand, and Counsellors Mr. Ashwin Kotnis and Dr. K. A. Senthil Velan. Mr. Sanjeev Sood, Country Head, Aditya Birla Group, Thailand and Ms. Shabnam Mehta, Head, Administration and Assistant Vice President, External Affairs, represented Aditya Birla Group at the event.
The occasion was also graced by leadership from the Thai Bharat Cultural Lodge (TBCL)— Prof. Dr. Chirapat Prapandvidya, President, Mr. Raj Matta, Vice President and Associate Prof. Dr. Nongluksana Thepsawadi, Board Member.
TBCL was set up in 1940 by Swami Satyananda Puri with encouragement from Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. TBCL is backed by the Government of India and supports education of Thai and Indian students in Thailand along with fostering the Indian culture in Thailand.
At the event, Mr. Sood handed over the computers assigned to Mahatma Gandhi Anusorn School, Sukhotai Province to TBCL. The remaining computers are scheduled to be handed over to Sathya Sai School, Lobpuri.
Aditya Birla Group companies in Thailand are involved in projects that foster education, healthcare, vocational training, sports and native festivals in the provinces in which they operate. The donation of computers is a part of the education programme. Birla Carbon, Thailand, has donated 44 computers to students in proximity to the company’s Angthong factory.
The Aditya Birla Group operates through nine manufacturing plants across sectors such as textiles, carbon black and chemicals in Thailand. During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, the Group proactively undertook relief measures to address the needs of local communities.
Speaking about the Group’s long association with Thailand, Mr. Sood said, “For over 50 years, the Group has been a valued partner in Thailand’s march towards progress, extending beyond business to meaningful community engagement.”
