Aditya Birla Group has a strong presence across metals, carbon black, textiles and trading sectors through its multiple businesses in Brazil.
Novelis, a leading sustainable aluminium solutions provider and the world leader in aluminium rolling and recycling has the largest facility in South America at Pinda (Pindamonhangaba). To attain the expected growth in the region, the plant was recently expanded to increase its rolling and recycling operations.
The company also has a plant at Santo Andre which produces aluminium foil products used. These are used in a variety of markets including automotive, pharmaceutical, electrical, and household and consumer goods. Eighty percent of the products manufactured in this plant is sold in Brazil, while 20% is exported to other global markets.
Brazil is also home to Aditya Birla Group’s global carbon black business. Birla Carbon, one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of high-quality carbon-based solutions, has a presence of over six decades’ in Brazil, which began with its Cubatão plant in 1958. Located in the state of São Paulo, 12 kilometers from the seaport city of Santos, the Cubatão plant has played a crucial role in Birla Carbon’s global operations, contributing to the company’s position as a key player in the carbon black industry in the South American market.
The Cubatão plant of Birla Carbon came into operation in 1958. The plant’s core proposition is to support the carbon black requirements for local and regional use in Tyres, MRG, Plastics, coatings, inks, and niche industries.
The plant has a large production capacity and a power plant that generates energy and steam, which is sent back to the local power grids. It is recognised under the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and IATF 16949 certifications. The Cubatao plant is also an active member of the ABIQUIM (Chemical Industry Brazilian Association) and the CIESP (Sao Paulo State Industries Center).
Brazil is also an active market for the commodity trading business of the Group – Aditya Birla Global Trading and an important export market for its Indonesia and Thailand based textile businesses - PT Sunrise Bumi Textiles (Indonesia), PT Elegant Textile Industry (Indonesia), PT Indo Liberty Textiles (Indonesia) Indo Thai Synthetics.
