Aditya Birla Group employees reaffirmed their support to making a difference to the less privileged sections of society by participating in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon held on 18 January 2015.
Employees from across businesses and functions in Mumbai came together to raise funds for four charities — Akanksha Foundation, Muktangan, Save the Children India and A World of Opportunity Foundation (AWOO).
It was heartening to see a rise in the number of employees who ran the half marathon – 85 completed the 21km stretch as compared to 57 last year. This was almost as large as the eager bunch of 85 dream runners who enjoyed every step of their 6km run. Five colleagues from the Group ran the full 42km marathon as compared to three last year.
Mr Ajay Srinivasan, CEO, Financial Services led the dream runners. This was the first half marathon for Mr. Mayank Bathwal, Deputy CEO, BSLI, while Mr. Anil Malik, Company Secretary, Hindalco, completed the full 42-km marathon in his personal best time of 4 hours 36 minutes.
The Group’s support of the Mumbai Marathon year after year is an example of its commitment to making a difference to the less privileged sections of society. In the 2013 Mumbai Marathon, the Group raised Rs.19 lakh and in 2014, it contributed Rs.23 lakh for the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and DeafBlind. The Group was also recognised for the second highest company contribution.
