Thus, Continua™ was born, a first-of-its-kind Sustainable Carbonaceous Material (SCM) that represents a ground-breaking step forward in the availability and know-how of sustainable solutions in the carbon black industry. By using SCM, customers can reduce their reliance on fossil fuels by opting for more circular materials, thus decreasing the environmental impact of their materials production.

Birla Carbon’s Continua™ products are paving the way for greener, cleaner, and more sustainable industry value chains for its customers. For instance, data shows that powder coatings are an environmentally friendly alternative to liquid coatings with no VOCs and very high application transfer efficiency. With many colour possibilities, 18% of powder coating consumption remains black. Continua™ 8510P delivers similar full-shade performance to general-purpose carbon black products. At equivalent pigment loadings, it produces a level of opacity and jetness comparable to traditional carbon black, with the added benefit of sustainability and circularity.

Similarly, in addition to its quantified sustainability attributes, the unique properties of Continua™ 8000 offer the Mechanical Rubber Goods (MGR) industry a certified, low PAH content solution expanding its use in skin contact applications.
