Since its establishment in 1897, Century Textiles and Industries Limited has embodied a century-long legacy of innovation, resilience, and commitment to excellence. Rooted in this rich history, the conglomerate has evolved by diversifying its operations across three core business verticals – Birla Estates (real estate), Century Pulp & Paper, and Birla Century (textiles). Today, it proudly represents the core values of Aditya Birla Group.

In 2016, Century Textiles ventured into real estate with Birla Estates. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, it focuses on developing premium to mid-income residential housing, drawing from a 125-year legacy. The company currently leads with five residential and two commercial projects.

Guided by the LIFEDESIGNED® philosophy, Birla Estates is dedicated to crafting well-designed environments. From commercial landmarks like Birla Aurora and Birla Centurion in Mumbai to a diverse residential portfolio exceeding 20 million square feet, the company prioritises design efficiency, customer-centricity, sustainability, and execution excellence.

Across the 67 lakh square feet of residential and 12.7 lakh square feet of commercial space under development of the company, sustainability is a key focus. For instance, its flagship project Birla Niyaara is the first residential project in India to be United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Platinum pre-certified. The company is also targeting to achieve ‘Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) Outstanding Certification’ rating for Birla Niyaara. The move has made it the first project in India to go for this certification.

Owning two IGBC Platinum-certified commercial properties in Mumbai – Birla Aurora and Birla Centurion – covering 12.70 lakh square feet, the company prioritises resource optimisation through intelligent lighting systems, water recycling, and energy-efficient appliances. Embracing technological trends like robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT), Birla Estates streamlines processes with tools like BIM (Building Information Management), enhancing collaboration during design and construction.

Century Pulp & Paper: Innovating for sustainability

Situated in the serene foothills of the Himalayas in Lalkuan (Uttarakhand), Century Pulp and Paper exemplifies Century Textiles' commitment to sustainability. Established in 1984, it is India's largest single-location manufacturer of Paper, Board, Tissue, and Pulp, contributing significantly to both domestic and export markets.

Beyond its manufacturing strength, Century Pulp & Paper stands out for its conscientious approach to environmental and community welfare. With service centres and sales offices across the country, the division aligns proudly with the values of Aditya Birla Group. In 2023, the manufacturing capacity reached an impressive 4. 81 lakh tonnes per annum, achieving a utilisation rate of 95%.

A notable achievement is the production of "Century Green Pulp," made from bagasse using advanced molding technology. This green pulp is specifically used to create biodegradable tableware items, reflecting the company's dedication to sustainable products. These items not only meet strict FDA regulations but also comply with guidelines from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for food packaging.

Birla Century established a cutting-edge plant in Jhagadia, Bharuch, Gujarat, backed by a $180 million investment. It very quickly became synonymous with premium textiles, manufacturing a diverse range of suiting, shirting, fine fabrics, and household linen.

Birla Century's commitment to innovation is evident in its eco-friendly and non-toxic production processes, ensuring sustainability at every step. With a focus on customisation, a widespread network of distributors and dealers, and the guidance of Chairman Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the company today stands as one of the market leaders. By 2023, its textile manufacturing capacity reached an impressive 41 million meters per annum, operating at an utilisation rate of 90%.

Introducing a pioneering initiative, Birla Advanced Knits Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Century Textiles and Industries Ltd. and Grasim Industries Ltd. This cutting-edge facility, operational since April 1, 2023, specialises in manufacturing man-made cellulose fibre (MMCF) knit fabrics. Tackling the industry's growth challenges, this strategic partnership leverages group synergies to revolutionise the sector, driving growth, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Century  Enka: Sustainability in every thread

Established in 1965, Century Enka Limited, part of the Aditya Birla Group, is renowned for producing high-quality Nylon Tyre Cord Fabric (NTCF) and Nylon Filament Yarn (NFY). NTCF is used as reinforcement in the production of vehicle tires, while NFY, a strong, elastic yet smooth yarn has a diverse range of applications from ethnic wear and swimwear to fishing nets and laces. The company has been a pioneer in creating NTCF from 100% recycled nylon waste, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly auto tyre sector.

The green NTCF, first shipped in November 2022 to Apollo Tyres, demonstrates Century Enka's dedication to a circular economy. With a focus on environmental practices, the company has achieved zero liquid discharge in its manufacturing process, reduced freshwater consumption, and has implemented biodegradable fuel usage. Century Enka continues to invest in renewable energy and plans to launch a new plant for polyester tyre cord fabric very soon.
