Aditya Birla Yarn sets the gold standard for efficiency in the yarn spinning industry, leading the charge towards sustainability through impactful global collaborations and responsible business practices

Weaving a sustainable future

Globally, industries are responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions, making the fate of our environment largely dependent on how well businesses integrate sustainable practices into their operations. Following in the footsteps of Aditya Birla Group's commitment to sustainability, Aditya Birla Yarn implements a wide range of strategies that lower its energy consumption and promote environmental harmony.

The journey of Aditya Birla Yarn began in 1969 with the setting up of Indo Thai Synthetics Company, marking a momentous milestone in the history of Aditya Birla Group as it ventured into international territory for the first time. Today, the company stands at the helm of the textile industry's march towards sustainability, all while setting a gold standard for efficiency.

Sustainability in action

With a global output of 113 million tonnes, the yarn spinning industry is undeniably massive. However, along with this size and scale, comes an environmental footprint that cannot be ignored. With a 13% market share in global synthetic yarn and a presence in over 60 countries, Aditya Birla Yarn has taken on the responsibility to minimise this impact, while continuing to prioritise safety and efficiency.

Here are three ways in which Aditya Birla Yarn keeps sustainability at the forefront:

  • Optimising power and resources to reduce waste, cut costs, and lower its environmental footprint
  • Prioritising employee safety and well-being to foster an inclusive workplace
  • Focusing on delivering high-quality products that create long-term value for society

Collaborating for a greener world

Acknowledging that sustainability is not a solitary endeavour, Aditya Birla Yarn actively partners with global sustainability associations and initiatives, such as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and Oeko-Tex. Collaborations like these bring together governments, industry bodies, and businesses to collectively tackle sustainability challenges, giving rise to fresh ideas and solutions in a shared mission for a better world.

Products that care

Products that care

Sustainability in production requires businesses to take charge of their entire product lifecycle. On this front, Aditya Birla Yarn leaves no stone unturned. Its 'Sustainable Yarns' collection, for instance, incorporates a high percentage of recycled material and holds numerous green manufacturing certifications. Notably, at least 73% of Aditya Birla Yarn's material consumption is sourced from renewable raw materials such as cellulosic fibre, recycled polyester, and BCI cotton, while over 90% of its packaging is made from recycled materials.

Being resourceful

Energy consumption plays a crucial role in environmental sustainability. From scope 1 to scope 3, Aditya Birla Yarn diligently monitors and controls greenhouse gas emissions. In Indonesia, all spinning units implement rainwater harvesting to meet their water needs. The company has also committed to the WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene at Workplace) standards across all units to foster employee well-being.

Aditya Birla Yarn has a dedicated team that works relentlessly to identify and implement energy conservation initiatives, resource optimisation measures, and renewable energy projects across manufacturing sites.

Corporate social responsibility is not merely a business activity for Aditya Birla Yarn; it is infused into every aspect of the company’s operations. From assisting in rainwater management to contributing to infrastructure development, Aditya Birla Yarn is committed to improving the quality of life for communities residing near its facilities. The business extends its support to local schools and religious institutions, recognising their importance in community life. It also organises tree plantation drives in nearby villages, contributing to a greener future.

By prioritising efficiency, responsible supply chains, and product stewardship throughout its 54-year legacy, Aditya Birla Yarn proudly serves as a blueprint for how the textile industry can become a catalyst for sustainable development.
