Materials That Enhance the Way We Live

Beyond developing new materials, Aditya Birla Group’s Chemicals business is reshaping how the world builds, moves, manufactures and recycles 

A mix of science, application-focused innovation and sustainability – that’s the roadmap at Aditya Birla Chemicals. With a strong portfolio across chlor-alkali, advanced materials, phosphates and sulphites, Adiya Birla Group’s Chemicals business is creating solutions for a changing world.

Today, Aditya Birla Chemicals has a manufacturing and customer footprint that spans the globe:

The business is looking beyond scale towards creating customer-centric materials and solutions that are increasingly high-performance and sustainability-oriented.

Here are some recent initiatives that demonstrate how Aditya Birla Chemicals is changing the shape of things.
 

Turning composite waste into a resource

The world uses advanced materials such as composites – a mix of materials that include resins, polymers, fibres, etc – in almost every industry, such as automotive, aerospace, consumer durables, etc. One of the biggest challenges facing advanced materials is also one of the most promising opportunities for innovation: What happens to composite materials at the end of their useful life?

Aditya Birla Chemicals’ Advanced Materials business is addressing this challenge through RecyclamineTM, its patented technology that enables the recycling, recovery and reuse of epoxy-based thermoset composites. By helping recover valuable materials such as carbon fibre, glass fibre and the polymer matrix, Recyclamine TM provides a pathway towards a more circular composites economy.

The business proposes to take this ambition further through a strategic partnership with South Korea-based Catack-H. The collaboration will bring together Aditya Birla Chemicals’ Recyclamine TM technology and Catack-H’s solvolysis-based recycling expertise to explore scalable and commercially viable solutions for handling composite waste. The proposed ecosystem will span across Asia Pacific, Europe and the US to further closed-loop recycling across industries such as wind energy, construction, automotive, sports and aerospace. It is a stellar example of how collaboration can turn sustainability from an aspiration into an industrial opportunity.
 

Making wind energy more circular

Wind power is central to the global transition towards cleaner energy. Yet the large composite blades that make wind turbines possible present a difficult end-of-life challenge. Aditya Birla Chemicals is helping address this paradox by embedding recyclability into the blades themselves.

Take wind turbine manufacturer Leitwind which has selected the Recyclamine TM epoxy system for its next generation of turbine blades, integrating the technology into the two critical structural components – the resin system and bonding paste. The first of the prototype blades are being produced for Leitwind’s LTW42 turbine, with comprehensive validation and certification, and the technology will subsequently be expanded across larger turbine platforms.

By designing recyclability into a material at the beginning of its life, Aditya Birla Chemicals is helping move the composites industry from a linear ‘make-use-dispose’ model towards a circular one.
 

Building India’s advanced materials capability

The Chemicals business is also strengthening India’s manufacturing base. Take CPVC resin which is used extensively in plumbing, water management, fire safety and industrial piping. Grasim, together with Lubrizol Advanced Materials, has established an advanced CPVC resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat, Gujarat, within Grasim’s integrated chlor-alkali complex. 

The facility is designed to address growing demand from India’s construction and infrastructure sectors while strengthening local production capabilities and developing an integrated value chain in advanced materials.
 

Taking advanced materials closer to customers

In 2025, Aditya Birla Chemicals acquired Cargill’s 17-acre specialty chemicals manufacturing facility in Dalton, Georgia. This acquisition helps to strengthen the Advanced Materials business with a portfolio of specialty chemicals such as epoxy resins, formulated resins, curing agents, reactive diluents and polyaspartic resins – which will be used by industries ranging from marine applications to industrial coatings and flooring.

More importantly, the Cargill acquisition will help introduce new applications for the automotive, renewable energy and aerospace sectors.
 

Expanding the chemicals value chain

Along with advanced materials, Aditya Birla Chemicals is simultaneously deepening its capabilities in high-value chemistries in its portfolio of chlor-alkali, chlorine derivatives and specialty chemicals. Its Epichlorohydrin (ECH) and CPVC facilities at Vilayat represent important additions to this integrated value chain.

With an expanded installed capacity of 1,505 KTPA, the Chemicals business has consolidated its position as India’s largest producer of caustic soda, while also increasing the nation’s domestic capacity in epoxy polymers and curing agents.
 

Reshaping tomorrow

Across these initiatives, a common thread emerges. Aditya Birla Chemicals is looking to be an enabler of high-performance materials, smarter infrastructure, cleaner energy and circular manufacturing.

From making composite materials recyclable to building advanced manufacturing capabilities in India and taking its technologies closer to global customers, the business is expanding what chemicals can make possible.

The ambition is to combine scale with science, global reach with local customer understanding, and growth with sustainability. That is what it means to change the shape of things: not merely responding to how industries are evolving, but helping shape the materials, technologies and partnerships that will define their future.
