Every day, over 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed around the world. Annually, the global coffee trade sees the import of approximately 136 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee, with exports touching nearly 139.26 million bags. Aditya Birla Global Trading deals with over 35 million metric tonnes of cargo every year, sourcing from more than 70 countries and distributing to more than 80 countries. And coffee is an important part of this cargo. If you wake up every morning to brew a cup of imported coffee, it's highly likely that Aditya Birla Global Trading made that happen!

The way we consume coffee has evolved significantly over the years. Coffee capsules or pods, the epitome of coffee convenience, have revolutionised the way we enjoy our daily cup of brew. These single-serving containers typically contain ground coffee and are designed for use in various coffee machines, ensuring not only convenience but a consistent taste each time. They come in a range of flavours and coffee types, making them a versatile choice for coffee enthusiasts.

In 2020, Novelis made its mark in the coffee industry by supplying Nespresso, the renowned Swiss coffee company, with aluminium for coffee capsules. What sets these capsules apart is their remarkable 90% recycled content, which makes them 9.2% more resource-efficient than standard ones. But even beyond sustainability, these capsules are designed to lock in the freshness and aroma of premium coffee, effectively shielding it from oxygen, light, and moisture. This venture exemplifies Novelis' commitment to environmental responsibility, closed-loop recycling, and fostering a circular economy – bringing sustainability to the global coffee business. Speaking of convenience, using a coffee creamer is the easiest way to customise your coffee without needing to add milk and sugar separately. It instantly adds creaminess, smoothness, and a touch of sweetness to coffee, enhancing its flavour and texture to suit your taste preferences. Dipotassium phosphate (DKP) plays a key role in coffee creamers to keep them smooth and clump-free. It prevents those annoying lumps from forming when the creamer encounters moisture. DKP also helps balance the creamer's acidity, making sure it mixes well with coffee without curdling or separating. Aditya Birla Chemicals has been a pioneer in the chemicals industry since the 1960s and currently ranks among the top five manufacturers of food phosphates globally, one of which is DKP.

On World Coffee Day, as we raise our cups to celebrate the global coffee culture, Aditya Birla Group promises to continue making quality coffee, accessible, affordable and sustainable to coffee lovers all over the world.
