Good evening!It is wonderful to be here in D.C., and I am honored to accept the 2025 USISPF Global Leadership Award. I extend my gratitude to the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and to the distinguished guests gathered here tonight. This recognition, in some ways, is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary potential of the U.S.-India partnership.In my view, the United States and India represent the two most dynamic economies in the world today—the perma-bets or permanent bets for us at <a href="/">Aditya Birla Group</a>. Both are driven by innovation, talent, and the sheer force of entrepreneurial ambition. The synergies between our two nations—across trade, technology, and manufacturing—are essential to shaping a more prosperous global future.At Aditya Birla Group, we believe that the United States is an incredibly attractive location for long-term investment, and we are very proud to be the largest Indian investor in the U.S. Our journey in this market started 18 years ago, when we acquired what was then a loss-making aluminum rolling company, <a href="/businesses/companies/novelis-inc/">Novelis</a>. Today, Novelis, alone is an 18 Billion Dollar behemoth with an annual capacity of 4.1 million tons. More striking still, it is the world’s largest aluminum recycling company, recycling 82 billion cans annually.&nbsp;Each time I visit the U.S., I am reminded of why it is the land of opportunity. And we continue to back that belief with action. At Bay Minette, in Alabama we have an ongoing project of US$ 4.1 billion for an integrated aluminium rolling mill— A 3000-acre testament to our ambition. This is our largest greenfield investment in a single location anywhere on the planet. We chose America because we believe in the strength, stability, and promise of this nation. This is the biggest industrial bet ever placed in Alabama’s history. Today, over 1,000 contractors are shaping that vision on the ground. And by the end of the year, we expect that number to double.I see this plant as a real catalyst for the region. A thousand permanent jobs. A resurgent local economy. New roads, a hotel under construction, developers lining up. Our commitment, frankly, is beyond capital— we are investing in people, in communities, and in long-term impact. That’s how we operate everywhere in the world. And frankly, this is how globalization should work—not as a zero-sum game, but as shared prosperity.Our actions and our investments only reveal our deep-rooted <a href="/businesses/countries/us/">commitment to the US</a> and to the broader Indo-US partnership. UltraTech Cement Limited is the cement flagship company of Aditya Birla Group. A USD 8.9 billion company, UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of grey cement, ready-mix concrete (RMC) and white cement in India. In 2025, UltraTech extended its footprint in the construction value chain, through wires and cables segment with a planned capital expenditure of ~ INR 1,800 crore over the next 2 years.UltraTech is the third largest cement company in the world, excluding China, with a consolidated production capacity of 192.26 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of grey cement. UltraTech is the only cement company globally (outside of China) to have 175+ MTPA of cement manufacturing capacity in a single country. The Company’s business operations span UAE, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and India.UltraTech’s manufacturing footprint comprises of 24 integrated manufacturing units, one Clinkerisation unit, 33 grinding units and 8 bulk packaging terminals. With 316 Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in 139 cities, UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of concrete in India. It has a slew of speciality concretes that meet specific needs of discerning customers.&nbsp;UltraTech has 34 integrated manufacturing units, 34 grinding units, one Clinkerisation unit and 9 Bulk Packaging Terminals. UltraTech has a network of over 1.4 lakh channel partners across the country and has a market reach of more than 80% across India. In the white cement segment, UltraTech goes to market under the brand name of Birla White. It has two White Cement units and three Wall Care putty units, with a current capacity of 2.6 MTPA. With 395 Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in 155 cities, UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of concrete in India.UltraTech is also a founding member of Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). It is a signatory to the GCCA Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the Net Zero Concrete Roadmap announced by GCCA. UltraTech is focused on accelerating the decarbonisation of its operations, and is the first company in India and the second company in Asia to issue dollar-based sustainability linked bonds. UltraTech works to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which it operates in. The Company’s social initiatives focus on education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, community infrastructure and social causes.

<h3>It’s not just more cement and clinker; India’s biggest cement player is moving deeper into the construction value chain</h3>UltraTech Cement, <a href="/businesses/sectors/cement/">India’s largest cement manufacturer</a>, has been on an accelerated acquisition path in the last few years. With a domestic capacity of over 188.8 million tonnes per annum, UltraTech is a company that’s thinking big.However, the last year has been unusual. UltraTech has not just significantly augmented its manufacturing capacity, it has forayed into new businesses, and notably advanced its sustainability roadmap. The USD 8.9-billion powerhouse is expanding its footprint across the construction value chain, while taking large strides in its sustainability journey.<h3> The Entry into Wires &amp; Cables</h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:35%;" src="https://www.cms.adityabirla.com/uploads/connection_of_optical_fiber_cable_5c23c02e22.webp" alt="connection-of-optical-fiber-cable.webp">In line with the Company’s strategy to strengthen its position as a comprehensive Building Solutions provider, UltraTech Cement has forayed into the wires and cables business. With a capital allocation of Rs.1,800-crore, to be deployed over the next two years, UltraTech proposes to leverage its extensive manufacturing expertise coupled with its connect with end-customers to deliver high-quality wires and cables, thereby targeting a higher share of the customers wallet. The new plant is being set up near Bharuch in Gujarat and is expected to be commissioned by December 2026.The product offering falls under UltraTech Building Solutions (UBS) vertical, which is India’s first multi-category retail chain for home builders, supporting them through every stage of construction as a one-stop-solution provider.With this entry, UltraTech aims to meet the growing demand for wires and cables across various sectors, including residential, commercial, infrastructure and industrial applications. The wires and cables industry has witnessed revenue CAGR of around ~13% between FY19 to FY24. With demand migration from the unorganised to the organised market, the outlook continues to remain robust, providing an attractive opportunity for a trusted brand.<h3> Ramping up Putty Production</h3>In a strategic decision to fast-track expansion in the white cement-based putty and value added products segment, UltraTech acquired Wonder WallCare in April 2025, which gives the Company access to a new state-of-the-art 600,000 metric tonnes per annum manufacturing plant at Rajsamand, Rajasthan. The venture will add to the Company’s existing offerings under the Birla White brand umbrella.The Wonder WallCare plant is situated at the pithead of large high quality raw material reserves, and in close proximity to the Company’s existing putty manufacturing facilities in Rajasthan. Constructed in 2022-23, this plant is one of the largest single-location putty manufacturing sites in India, with a capability to ramp up its capacities in future. This acquisition will help UltraTech to expand its putty and value-added products’ production capacity, in the highly competitive and fragmented putty manufacturing market in India.<h3> All Set for 200 Million Tonnes Target</h3>UltraTech’s organic and inorganic expansions have led to it almost doubling capacity since it crossed 100 MTPA in 2018. With the latest successful acquisition of the cement business of Kesoram Industries Limited in February 2025, UltraTech Cement’s total capacity in India has reached ∼188.8 MTPA, and the Company’s consolidated capacity is now ∼192 MTPA. The cement major, with 34 integrated manufacturing units, 34 grinding units, one clinkerisation unit, nine bulk packaging terminals and a network of over 1.4 lakh channel partners across the country, is firmly on course to achieve its target of 200 MTPA by 2027.The Kesoram acquisition follows the December 2024 acquisition of India Cements, which brought in 14.5 MTPA capacity across plants in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. The acquisition enabled UltraTech to enhance its geographic reach in the fast-growing southern markets, while unlocking synergies in manufacturing, distribution and logistics alignment.<h3> USD500 million in Green Financing</h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-right" style="width:35%;" src="https://www.cms.adityabirla.com/uploads/wind_power_generation_on_forest_mountain_top_1861b325cb.webp" alt="wind-power-generation-on-forest-mountain-top.webp">UltraTech has stayed steady on its sustainability path, including initiatives for water positivity, net carbon zero and net zero diversity loss. After the success of its inaugural sustainability-linked bond issuance in 2021, the Company raised another US$500 million green loan in August 2024 from a consortium of six banks. This financing signifies UltraTech’s commitment to align its funding strategy with its sustainability and ESG goals.The Company’s Sustainability-Linked Financing Framework is aligned with the sustainability-linked bond and loan principles. Targets include reduction of scope 1 emissions by 27% by March 31, 2032, from a FY17 baseline and increasing the share of green energy from waste heat recovery system (WHRS), solar and wind power in its total energy mix to 85% by FY30 and 100% in FY50.UltraTech is well ahead on this path, <a href="/businesses/companies/ultratech-cement-limited/">leading cement companies in India</a>It is among the first industrial companies in India to have commissioned 1 GW of renewable energy capacity for captive use. Combined with its 351 MW in WHRS, UltraTech’s cumulative green energy capacity has now reached 1,372 MW, already catering to about 46% of the current power requirements.<h3> The Path of Sustainable Growth</h3>In all its recent moves, UltraTech has kept future-readiness at the heart of its strategy. The portfolio and capacity expansion are aligned with customer-centricity and scale of economy, while the Company continues to forge ahead on its initiatives for Decarbonisation, Energy Management, Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, Water Stewardship, Biodiversity and Land Use, Responsible Mining and Supply Chain Management. To sum up, UltraTech cement best quality is creating long-term and sustainable stakeholder value, while moving closer to satisfy its end customer. &nbsp;

Novelis: 20 years of leading the Aluminium industry in innovation and sustainability

Looking at climate change and an ever-increasing population, water is a critical resource, on which hinges the future of the world. Every effort to conserve it, takes us a step forward on this journey.At a time when lakes and ground water scarcity in the city of Bengaluru keep making headlines, Puttenahalli lake is a thriving ecosystem that supports 120+ birds and 500+ trees, and clean water – all thanks to Usha and her incredible team.Meet Usha Rajagopalan, who turned a dying lake in the city into a green oasis by sheer perseverance and by getting the community involved, underscoring the fact that she is a true Force for Good.&nbsp;<div class="video-responsive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FB_QjT4kmUo?si=0FSIvNjfH3Tr5RDq&amp;" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>&nbsp;In the 1960s, Bengaluru was a city of lakes, with over 280 of them. But by 2006, only 194 of them survived. Puttenahalli lake, near Usha’s home, was dying with sewage, debris and burning trash choking it daily. Usha began a campaign to get BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to rejuvenate the lake. Along with three friends, she formed a trust – Puttenahalli Neighbourhood Lake Improvement Trust (PNLIT) – to nurture the lake. Usha got the community involved to sustain their efforts and they became the biggest supporters and protectors of the lake. Some donated money and some donated time and effort to clear the waste and weeds. Soon the mission and the lake became the pride of the community.By 2012, BBMP made PNLIT the official citizen caretakers of the lake. Usha began using hydroponics to boost water quality. Together with community members, she turned PVC pipes into floating islands of plants that could absorb pollutants. When sewage from a nearby site started to flow into the lake, PNLIT fought back and won.“Every single lake or pond, irrespective of its size, needs to be saved,” says Usha. “Our future lies in clean air and clean water. I think it is everybody’s responsibility, no matter where we are.”Aditya Birla Group has partnered with The Better India to give voice to inspiring stories of people acting as #AForceForGood.

Water Warrior: How Usha and her community transformed a dying Bengaluru lake

In 1969, Mr Aditya Vikram Birla set up Indo Thai Synthetics in Thailand, marking a proud post-independence moment where an Indian company expanded its footprint on the world stage. Since then, the Group has spread to 41 countries, with multiple acquisitions across metals, pulp and fibre, carbon black, cement and more.Among these, the US is a key market for the Group. Aditya Birla Group is in the unique position of being the largest Indian greenfield investor in the world’s biggest economy.The latest entrant to the Group’s portfolio is AluChem Companies, Inc, a leading US producer of Specialty Alumina. Acquired by <a href="/businesses/companies/hindalco-industries-limited/">Hindalco Industries</a> in June 2025, this milestone marks the first Indian entry into the ultra-low soda and tabular alumina segments—high-performance materials that are crucial to advanced industrial applications.The AluChem acquisition, which adds three US facilities to the Group manufacturing footprint, further strengthens the Group’s substantial investments in the US.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>Expanding horizons in a strategic market</h3>As an economic powerhouse, the US serves as a strategic growth hub for Aditya Birla Group. “Our commitment to global expansion is driven by our pursuit of excellence and the desire to create a meaningful impact in every region we operate,” noted Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla in a recent media interaction up on being conferred the <a href="/media/stories/mr-kumar-mangalam-birlas-acceptance-speech-at-usispf-global-leadership-award/">Global Leadership Award</a> at the 2025 USISPF Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening US-India business ties. <a href="/media/stories/mr-kumar-mangalam-birlas-acceptance-speech-at-usispf-global-leadership-award/">“At Aditya Birla Group, we believe that the United States is an incredibly attractive location for long-term investment, and we are very proud to be the largest Indian investor in the US.”</a> &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>At home in the US</h3>The Group’s first entry on US soil dates back to 2007, when Hindalco acquired Novelis, a loss-making aluminium rolling company. Today, Novelis alone has grown into an $17 billion enterprise making its mark as a world leader in aluminium recycling and circular manufacturing.In 2020, Hindalco-Novelis acquired Aleris Corporation, which catapulted its holding company, Hindalco, to one of the world’s largest aluminium companies, and added premium downstream metal capabilities, especially in high end aerospace aluminium.The $2.5 billion Bay Minette project by <a href="/businesses/companies/novelis-inc/">Novelis</a> is the first fully integrated, low-carbon recycling and rolling aluminium plant built in the United States in nearly 40 years. The highly advanced facility will have an initial 600 kilotonnes of finished aluminium goods capacity per year. Aditya Birla Chemicals (USA) Inc acquired <a href="/media/press-releases/aditya-birla-advanced-materials-acquires-cargills-specialty-manufacturing-facility-in-us/">Cargill</a>’s 17-acre specialty chemicals plant in Dalton, Georgia. The unit delivers tailored, high-quality solutions under its renowned Epotec® epoxy resins and CTP brands, “This acquisition represents Aditya Birla Group’s strategic entry into the US chemicals industry, extending the business model of our other successful manufacturing businesses in the United States, including Novelis and Birla Carbon,” said Mr Birla in a statement issued to the press.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>Carbon Black magic</h3>A big boost to the Group’s US presence came through Birla Carbon’s acquisition of Columbian Chemicals in 2011. Today, with two manufacturing units and a technology centre in the country, Birla Carbon is a global leader in carbon-based solutions and a front-runner in sustainable innovation.A recent partnership with Circtec brings cutting-edge recycling to the forefront, commercialising Continua™, <a href="/businesses/companies/birla-carbon/">Birla Carbon</a>’s pioneering sustainable carbonaceous material derived by recycling end-of-life tyres.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>Trading around the world</h3>The US is also a strong centre for Aditya Birla Global Trading (formerly Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises Pte Ltd), one of the most diversified commodities traders in the world. Present in 24 countries, the company handles 30+ different commodities across agri products, agri-inputs, energy and metals. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>A deep commitment to sustainability</h3>What’s noteworthy is that across all its US operations, Aditya Birla Group has embedded sustainability at the core of its strategy:<ul><li>Novelis recycles over 84 billion aluminium cans annually, dramatically reducing energy consumption and emissions.
