<p>Long before he became a lifeline for thousands, Dushyant Dubey was just a 17-year-old boy, watching something horrific: A teenager in Florida was livestreaming his suicide. Dushyant watched in shock, and racing against time, tracing details of the location, he called the Miami police from his mother’s phone.</p><p>Help came too late for that teenager. But the moment stayed with Dushyant. He started small, volunteering with non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Ahmedabad, and later in Bengaluru, showing up, helping where he could.</p><p>In 2023, he walked away from his marketing job and built something bigger, the Broseph Foundation. What began as a response to injustice soon became a safety net for those with nowhere else to turn.</p><p>Women escaping abusive homes.&nbsp;<br>Victims of cyberstalking.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Children denied their right to education.</p><p>Dushyant and his team step in when it matters most, rescuing, supporting, standing beside survivors in courtrooms, drafting FIRs, arranging hospital care, and even funding therapy from their own savings. Because for him, this isn’t just work. It’s personal.</p><p>The road hasn’t been easy. There have been death threats. Physical assaults. Police harassment. Once, he was even dragged out during a rescue.</p><p>But he keeps going. Because for every life he couldn’t save, there are thousands he still can.</p><p>Today, nearly 50,000 people in Bengaluru have his number on their phones. And a growing army of over 8,000 volunteers carries his mission forward across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai.</p><p>One call. One intervention. One life at a time. Novelis has offices in Stuttgart and six manufacturing facilities across Germany. Its Göttingen plant, located in central Germany, is a leader in supplying rolled aluminium for the beverage can and building and construction markets. Founded in 1964, the Koblenz facility is one of the most capable hot rolling mills in the world for supplying plate, sheet and coil to all major industries in various grades and more than 130 customised alloys.</p><p>The Novelis plant in Nachterstedt is one of the largest and most successful employers in the Saxony-Anhalt region, and supplies high-quality rolled aluminium products to the automotive, can, industrial and construction markets worldwide. The world's largest aluminium recycling centre is also located here, which can produce up to 400,000 tons of aluminium sheet ingots from recycled material.</p><p>Novelis’ other plants are at Ohle and Voerde. Then, there is Aluminium Norf GmbH, which is jointly owned by Novelis and aluminium rolling and recycling company Speira and which is the world’s largest and most technologically advanced aluminium manufacturing facility. Alunorf casts sheet ingots and rolls semi-finished products that serve a wide range of applications.</p><p>Apart from Novelis, Aditya Birla Group’s chemical business has a strong presence in Germany through CTP Advanced Materials. Started in Russelsheim, Germany, in 1993, CTP GmbH has grown to become a leading curing agent manufacturer in Europe. CTP-AM, started in 2005, is a development and marketing company that serves the electrical and composite industry as a speciality products and solutions provider.</p><p>Spinnerei Lampertsmühle, a part of Aditya Birla Yarns, was incorporated in 1854. The company, with a capacity of 50,000 spindles and legacy of over 150 years, is one of the leading technical textile yarn manufacturers in the EU. Germany is also a strong market for Birla Carbon with offices in Hannover.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>France</strong></h3><p>Novelis contributes to the active presence of Aditya Birla Group in France. The company has a manufacturing facility in Voreppe, delivering cast-house equipment to customers worldwide. The unit is a world leader in continuous twin-roll casting, vertical DC casting and molten aluminium degassing and filtration technology. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Belgium</strong></h3><p>The Group's carbon black and textile businesses have an established presence in Belgium. In 2023, Birla Carbon acquired Nanocyl SA, a global leader in multi-wall carbon nanotubes located in Sambreville, Belgium. This strategic acquisition not only expanded Birla Carbon's footprint in the energy systems market but also positioned it as a leader in materials crucial for lithium-ion battery performance and various other conductive applications.</p><p>In textiles, Group subsidiary Jaya Shree Textiles strategically sources the finest flax from Belgium and other parts of Europe to produce 100% pure linen. Belgium also stands out as a key export market for the Group’s synthetic yarn business.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Hungary</strong></h3><p>One of Birla Carbon’s European plants is located in Hungary. The facility was set up in 1994 with an installed capacity of 50,000 kMT, and achieved &nbsp;ISO 9001 and 14001 standards in 1999. Since inception, Birla Carbon Hungary’s focus has been to support the carbon black requirements of the Europe and Africa region.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Italy</strong></h3><p>Italy is a strong market for the Group’s metals, carbon black, cellulosic fibre and textiles businesses. Novelis has two manufacturing units in Italy. Its plant in Bresso, to the north of Milan, produces pre-painted aluminium as well as sheets with special surfaces such as bright and embossed finishes. The Pieve plant, situated south of Milan, has more than 50 years of experience in rolling aluminium. The plant has state-of-the-art aluminium scrap recycling, continuous casting and cold-rolling equipment. Its products are primarily supplied to Novelis’ European coil-coating lines and to customers producing speciality products.&nbsp;<br>Apart from Novelis, Birla Carbon, has a manufacturing facility at San Martino di Trecate, Italy. Italy is also a strong export market for the Group’s cellulosic fibre and textile businesses.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Sweden</strong></h3><p><a href="/businesses/companies/domsjo-fabriker-domsjo/">Domsjö Fabriker</a> is Aditya Birla Group’s Sweden-based specialty pulp and bio-refinery company, having a capacity of 230,000 tonnes of cellulose, 120,000 tonnes of lignin and 20,000 tonnes of bio-ethanol. Domsjö Fabriker has its origins in sustainable Swedish forestry. The bio-energy generated by the process is used internally, making Domsjö virtually independent of fossil energy sources. Domsjö's products are mostly sold outside Sweden, and the largest markets are in Asia. It is arguably one of the only companies in the world to have a closed loop bleaching process with zero emission.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Switzerland</strong></h3><p>Novelis has its offices in Küsnacht and a manufacturing unit in Sierre. The Sierre facility is mainly focused on the production of aluminium sheets for the automotive market. The Novelis plant in Sierre has been supplying the automotive industry for more than 40 years and is the leading site in Europe for the production of aluminium bodywork sheets. Sierre has a fully-integrated system, covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The remelt is capable of casting standard single alloys as well as multi-alloy ingots.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>United Kingdom</strong></h3><p>Aditya Birla Group is a leading player in aluminium recycling in UK through Novelis subsidiary Aleris Aluminium’s dedicated recycling unit at Latchford. The recycling plant was opened in 1991 and currently recycles used beverage cans and automotive scrap. The plant has a capacity to recycle around 200,000 tonnes of aluminium.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Slovakia</strong></h3><p>The Group has a presence in Slovakia through Aditya Birla Yarn. The Spilatex facility was incorporated in 2005 as a 100% partnership with the German company Spinnerei Lampertsmühle GmbH. <p><i>With new FRP, battery foil and smelter expansion projects underway in Odisha, Hindalco is strengthening India’s aluminium ecosystem, aligning Make in India with future demand from mobility, energy and advanced manufacturing.</i></p><p>Make in India is not an easy challenge. Manufacturing leadership today – especially in metals – depends not just on scale, but on depth of operations. Industries must build domestic capability across the value chain, reduce import dependence, and prepare to meet demand from emergent sectors such as electric mobility, energy storage, defence and advanced packaging.</p><p>For <a href="/businesses/companies/hindalco-industries-limited/">Hindalco</a>, this has meant building the aluminium ecosystem from the ground up, to occupy its position as the world’s largest aluminium company (by revenue).</p><p>Recent milestones at its expansive Odisha operations reflect this direction. The commissioning of new flat rolled products and battery-grade foil facilities, alongside the flag-off of a major smelter expansion, mark a decisive step in strengthening India’s aluminium manufacturing base. These are not standalone events, but part of a longer-term strategy to build integrated, future-ready capacity.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Strengthening the Base: Smelter Expansion at Scale</strong></h3><p>Aluminium is a critical input for modern industry, and long-term manufacturing growth depends on assured availability of primary metal.</p><p>Hindalco’s ₹21,000 crore brownfield expansion at the Aditya Aluminium complex in Sambalpur will add 3.6 lakh tonnes per annum of smelting capacity, taking the facility closer to 0.72 million tonnes per annum. The expansion strengthens domestic metal availability while improving productivity, energy efficiency and operational resilience.</p><p>The project also integrates round-the-clock renewable power solutions, progressively lowering the carbon intensity of aluminium production. As sustainability becomes a core sourcing requirement across sectors, this shift is increasingly central to manufacturing competitiveness.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Moving Up the Value Chain: FRP and Battery Foil Commissioning</strong></h3><p>India continues to import a significant share of flat rolled aluminium required for packaging, automotive applications, electronics and batteries.</p><p>To address this gap, Hindalco has commissioned a ₹4,500 crore expansion of its flat rolled products and foil facilities in the Hirakud–Lapanga cluster in Odisha. FRP capacity will increase to 335,000 tonnes per annum and is expected to cut India’s flat rolled aluminium import dependence by nearly half.</p><p>Another unit being commissioned is India’s first battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing facility. Designed to support up to 100 GWh of lithium-ion cell production, the plant strengthens domestic capability for electric mobility and energy storage, while reducing reliance on imported specialty materials.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Integration as Competitive Advantage</strong></h3><p>What differentiates this expansion is not capacity alone, but integration.</p><p>Hot metal flow from smelter to downstream units improves energy efficiency, consistency and quality control. Proximity between upstream and downstream operations enables tighter coordination, faster response to customer requirements and closer alignment between metal production and end-use applications.</p><p>This integrated model allows Hindalco to move decisively up the value chain, delivering value-added aluminium products that meet global benchmarks while remaining resilient to supply chain disruptions.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Odisha as the Manufacturing Anchor</strong></h3><p>Odisha sits at the centre of this strategy. Hindalco has invested over ₹30,700 crore in the state to date across mining, smelting and downstream manufacturing, with integrated operations that employ nearly 23,000 people.</p><p>The next phase of investments, including the current ₹37,000 crore expansion pipeline, is expected to generate over 15,000 additional direct and indirect jobs. The Hirakud smelter, one of India’s oldest aluminium facilities, continues to anchor upstream production, while Aditya Aluminium at Lapanga represents the next generation of smelting and downstream manufacturing.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Building for What Comes Next</strong></h3><p>Demand for aluminium will accelerate as India expands its EV ecosystem, strengthens its defence manufacturing base and modernises packaging and transport infrastructure. Meeting this demand will require integrated thinking, sustained investment and continuous capability building.</p><p>As India moves up the industrial value chain, aluminium made in India will increasingly need to be engineered for advanced applications, produced responsibly and delivered at scale. Hindalco’s integrated approach positions it to play a central role in that journey.</p>

Born in Odisha: The reshaping of India’s Aluminium future

<p>Ramveer Tanwar breaks out in a smile whenever he recalls how as children, he and his friends would jump into the village ponds back home in Uttar Pradesh. They would frolic in the clean water, breathe in fresh air and even accidentally swallow water at times. It’s a joy that he finds hard to explain to today’s children, who only see wasteland where there were once clean ponds.</p><p>That’s why Tanwar, who is an engineer by qualification, decided to quit his job at a multinational company and made it his mission to bring back India’s ponds to life. His firm belief in “it’s now or never” and his perseverance have led to the revival of more than 80 water bodies in seven states across the country today.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="video-responsive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dAp4CfooaK8" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Tanwar, who is known as the Pondman of India, cleans some of the dirtiest water bodies in the country, &nbsp;often encountering dead animals, snakes and even scorpions in them. “<i>This work frequently puts my life at risk, but regardless of the weather, be it rain or storm, I continue working tirelessly,</i>” says the man, who has battled everything from limited funds and land encroachers to a doubting public as well as disappointment from his own family, who believe that cleaning ponds is not a respectable job.</p><p>Refusing to back down, however, Tanwar now leads a team of 500+ volunteers. Together, they have succeeded in cleaning over 80 ponds. In the process, they have restored ecosystems, revived communities and even earned praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. <i>“Unfortunately, our water bodies now resemble landfill sites.
