<p>Ramveer Tanwar breaks out in a smile whenever he recalls how as children, he and his friends would jump into the village ponds back home in Uttar Pradesh. They would frolic in the clean water, breathe in fresh air and even accidentally swallow water at times. It’s a joy that he finds hard to explain to today’s children, who only see wasteland where there were once clean ponds.</p><p>That’s why Tanwar, who is an engineer by qualification, decided to quit his job at a multinational company and made it his mission to bring back India’s ponds to life. His firm belief in “it’s now or never” and his perseverance have led to the revival of more than 80 water bodies in seven states across the country today.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="video-responsive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dAp4CfooaK8" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Tanwar, who is known as the Pondman of India, cleans some of the dirtiest water bodies in the country, &nbsp;often encountering dead animals, snakes and even scorpions in them. “<i>This work frequently puts my life at risk, but regardless of the weather, be it rain or storm, I continue working tirelessly,</i>” says the man, who has battled everything from limited funds and land encroachers to a doubting public as well as disappointment from his own family, who believe that cleaning ponds is not a respectable job.</p><p>Refusing to back down, however, Tanwar now leads a team of 500+ volunteers. Together, they have succeeded in cleaning over 80 ponds. In the process, they have restored ecosystems, revived communities and even earned praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. <i>“Unfortunately, our water bodies now resemble landfill sites. <p>Growing up in a village, Akhand Singh saw first-hand how differently abled children were often mistreated. Some were locked inside rooms, others tied to beds. Parents, unsure how to care for them and struggling with resources or guidance, did what they could. Those early memories stayed with him.</p><p>After completing his education, Akhand spent two years working in the corporate world. But he never stopped thinking about those children. Many of the children, he explains, come from families where “even arranging two meals a day is a struggle.” <i>Some have lost both parents, others have just one. “We need to take very good care of these specially-abled children,</i>” he says.</p><p>Akhand’s mission doesn’t stop there. He now dreams of building a larger home that can support over 300 children, giving them stability and a real chance at a better future. His message is simple: “<i>Do not consider these children as different from yourselves. They are our own. All they need is an opportunity. <p>Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) Ltd. (ABCTL) is a part of the group’s chemical business and is engaged in the production of major chemical groups, such as chlor-alkali, epichlorohydrin, epoxy resins, phosphates, and sulphites.</p><p>Aditya Birla Chemicals ventured into the US in 2024 with a $50 million investment to set up a manufacturing and research and development facility at Beaumont in Texas.</p><p>In 2025, Aditya Birla Chemicals (USA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) acquired Cargill Incorporated’s 17-acre specialty chemicals manufacturing facility in Dalton, Georgia.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>Aditya Birla Chemicals (ABCTL) has four main divisions:</h2><p><strong>Phosphates Division</strong></p><p>Established in 1984, the Phosphates division has successfully transformed itself from being solely a technical grade producer to one offering high performance speciality range of functional food ingredients. Today, the company has a production capacity of 110,000 TPA and exports approximately 70% of its products world-wide, making it the largest single location player in Asia Pacific.</p><p><strong>Advanced Materials</strong></p><p>With a reach that spans over 90 countries, Aditya Birla Chemicals’ (Thailand) Advanced Materials division is among the top 3 epoxy players in the world. Committed to serve industries, the unit aligns with customers to fulfil their assembly-line needs, test new prototype solutions, provide technical expertise, build innovations, and enter new markets. With the acquisition of the award-winning patented Recyclamine technology in 2019, Advanced Materials has entered the vitality dimension with vigour.</p><p><strong>Sulphites Division</strong></p><p>Aditya Birla Chemicals’ (Thailand) Sulphites Division is the largest producer of powdered Sulphites in the world and offers products like sodium sulphite, sodium metabisulphite, catalysed sodium sulphite, to various industries and applications like mining, water treatment, pulp &amp; paper, etc.</p><p><strong>Chlor Alkali Division</strong></p><p>The Chlor Alkali Division (CAD) of ABCTL serves as raw material for Aditya Birla Group’s other businesses in Thailand, besides being the largest exporter of chlorine to ASEAN and Australia regions.</p>

<h3><strong>What do wind turbine blades, factory floorings and missiles have in common?</strong></h3><p>The answer lies in epoxy, a high-performance chemical known for its strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, and durability. Epoxies are integral to modern industry, from infrastructure and mobility to defence and renewables. Supported by strong demand in construction, packaging and electronics sectors, the epoxy polymers market is expected to grow at 6.1% CAGR through 2030.</p><p><a href="/businesses/companies/aditya-birla-chemicals-thailand-abctl/">Aditya Birla Chemicals</a> is already among the Top 10 global epoxy players, a position buttressed in June 2025 when it expanded its global manufacturing footprint by acquiring Cargill's specialty chemical manufacturing facility in Dalton, Georgia, USA. The newly acquired Dalton unit will enable to serve regional customers more efficiently as well as collaborate closely with them to develop tailored solutions.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Boosting capacity</strong></h3><p>The acquisition will further bolster the Group’s Advanced Materials business in the US and globally. Aditya Birla Chemicals plans to more than double the facility's current capacity of 16,000 tons per year to over 40,000 tons within two years. Beyond marine and industrial coating products, the company plans to strengthen its Advanced Materials business by introducing patented chemistries for the automotive, renewable energy, and aerospace sectors, specifically for recycling epoxy composites used in wind, sports goods, pressures vessels and other applications.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Servicing local markets</strong></h3><p>The US is a strategic and profitable market for Advanced Materials. This acquisition has fast-tracked the Group’s entry into the US market with an established manufacturing footprint in the country, while tackling challenges associated with trade barriers like reciprocal duties and anti-dumping investigations. Moreover, with a local application development centre, the business will be able to solve customer problems in a responsive manner, as well as provide customised solutions tailored for local needs.</p><p>The Dalton facility will enable servicing of attractive end markets such as coatings, adhesive and sealants, performance flooring, construction, and others, since it is a trusted supplier to marquee customers. The site manufactures various speciality products such as reactive diluents and curing agents, with an impressive depth in the product portfolio. Reactive diluents include mono and multi-functional products, which enhance the performance of epoxy systems. There is comprehensive portfolio of curing agents including polyamides, amidoamines, Mannich bases, cycloaliphatic amines, modified aliphatic amines and tertiary amines, serving diverse applications and performance requirements.<br>&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>What’s new: Poly-aspartic ester resins</strong></h3><p>The acquisition also adds a new chemistry of poly-aspartic ester resins in the business portfolio. Poly-aspartic ester resins offer several key benefits, most notably rapid curing and hence faster turnaround time, superior UV stability (non-yellowing), and greater flexibility. These advantages make poly-aspartic coatings a high-performance choice for applications where speed and long-term appearance matter and have strong demand in developed markets. <h3><strong>Turning surplus food into meals for the needy: Chennai’s hunger champion</strong></h3><p>Arun Kumar can’t bear to see food go waste – or people go hungry. That’s why he and his team at No Food Waste have made it their mission to prevent surplus food at events and weddings in Chennai from going to the trash, redistributing it instead to offer 40,000+ meals a month to those in need.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>It all began when Kumar saw the three engineer-founders of No Food Waste in Coimbatore convert their shock at the mountains of food waste at weddings into positive action. Inspired by them and appalled by the large number of people who go hungry in India, Kumar founded the Chennai chapter of No Food Waste in 2018.</p><p>The initial years were tough given limited funds, low awareness and few volunteers. But Kumar was passionate about feeding the needy. “<i>India generates </i><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/food-news/india-turns-out-to-be-the-second-country-that-produces-78-million-tonnes-of-household-waste/articleshow/124600794.cms"><i>78.2 million tonnes of food waste&nbsp;</i></a><i> every year,</i>” he states, pointing to the enormity of the problem.</p><p>Undeterred by obstacles, Kumar and his team of volunteers let no event in Chennai go waste today. Whenever there’s extra food at a wedding, a corporate party, school function or any other event, No Food Waste’s helpline is ready to take the call. Kumar’s team rushes in with collection vans and ensures timely and safe redistribution of the surplus food to people in shelter homes and slums. “<i>We collect surplus food from big events and serve it to needy people across Chennai,</i>” says Kumar. You could be the reason someone sleeps with a full stomach tonight,</i>” urges Kumar. He adds: “<i>We request you to support our initiative by volunteering or becoming a part of our community. <p>Sometimes, the simplest ideas create the deepest impact. For Bengaluru-based friends Nitin, Vinod, Vignesh, and Melisha, that idea was a clothes bank where anyone in need could buy clothing for just ₹1.</p><p>The thought first took shape during their college days, when the group collected clothes from fellow students and distributed them on the streets. After graduation, life moved on. Careers took over, and the initiative paused. But when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, they found themselves once again face to face with hardship: migrant workers and daily wage earners struggling to survive, often without even basic clothing.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="video-responsive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WBWXTTIxBOE" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pooling their personal savings, the group launched a ₹1 clothes bank with a simple belief: help should come with dignity. Instead of giving clothes away for free, they priced them at ₹1, allowing people to choose what they wanted and walk away with their self-respect intact.</p><p>The early days were filled with doubt. Would people donate clothes? Would anyone come to buy them? Would volunteers step forward? “<i>We started collecting clothes from friends and family members initially,</i>” says Nitin. There were days when the team went door to door collecting clothes with little help. Gradually, community support began to grow, and a resident even offered space in her apartment to run the clothes bank.</p><p>Today, the space looks like a store. Shirts, saris, jackets and blankets are neatly arranged, ready to be chosen. The small amount collected from sales goes back into supporting the medical and educational needs of struggling families.
