Good evening!It is wonderful to be here in D.C., and I am honored to accept the 2025 USISPF Global Leadership Award. I extend my gratitude to the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and to the distinguished guests gathered here tonight. This recognition, in some ways, is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary potential of the U.S.-India partnership.In my view, the United States and India represent the two most dynamic economies in the world today—the perma-bets or permanent bets for us at <a href="/">Aditya Birla Group</a>. Both are driven by innovation, talent, and the sheer force of entrepreneurial ambition. The synergies between our two nations—across trade, technology, and manufacturing—are essential to shaping a more prosperous global future.At Aditya Birla Group, we believe that the United States is an incredibly attractive location for long-term investment, and we are very proud to be the largest Indian investor in the U.S. Our journey in this market started 18 years ago, when we acquired what was then a loss-making aluminum rolling company, <a href="/businesses/companies/novelis-inc/">Novelis</a>. Today, Novelis, alone is an 18 Billion Dollar behemoth with an annual capacity of 4.1 million tons. More striking still, it is the world’s largest aluminum recycling company, recycling 82 billion cans annually.&nbsp;Each time I visit the U.S., I am reminded of why it is the land of opportunity. And we continue to back that belief with action. At Bay Minette, in Alabama we have an ongoing project of US$ 4.1 billion for an integrated aluminium rolling mill— A 3000-acre testament to our ambition. This is our largest greenfield investment in a single location anywhere on the planet. We chose America because we believe in the strength, stability, and promise of this nation. This is the biggest industrial bet ever placed in Alabama’s history. Today, over 1,000 contractors are shaping that vision on the ground. And by the end of the year, we expect that number to double.I see this plant as a real catalyst for the region. A thousand permanent jobs. A resurgent local economy. New roads, a hotel under construction, developers lining up. Our commitment, frankly, is beyond capital— we are investing in people, in communities, and in long-term impact. The company also recycles up to 68% wastewater (which is treated and reused in operations)– that’s more than ever before. Hindalco has reaffirmed its commitment to circularity through its ₹2000Cr investment in India’s first-ever e-waste and copper scrap recycling facility.Electronic waste, or e-waste, is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world, affecting both human health and the environment. Globally, the annual generation of e-waste is rising by 2.6 million tonnes, with a projected reach of 82 million tonnes by 2030, a further 33% increase from the 2022 figure, as reported in UN's fourth Global E-waste Monitor report. The billions of dollars’ worth of strategically valuable resources that go into manufacturing electronics are being dumped and squandered, with a mere 1% of rare earth element demand met by recycling. Every tonne was tracked, processed and accounted for through responsible collection, recycling and recovery mechanisms. In FY24 alone, UltraTech co-processed 4,372 metric tonnes of plastic waste, safely disposing of it in its kilns while recovering energy in the process. This is made possible through active partnerships with over 80 municipal bodies, converting city waste challenges into industrial solutions.At scale, this creates measurable impact, especially in massive public events like Maha Kumbh 2025. <a href="/businesses/companies/ultratech-cement-limited/">UltraTech</a> partnered with Prayagraj Nagar Nigam to collect plastic waste from the religious gathering and convert it into alternative fuel at the Dalla Cement Works. &nbsp;It has also transformed its own packaging by introducing cement bags made from 50% recycled polypropylene (rPP). Circular by Design: Aditya Birla Group’s push against plastic waste and more

Inspirational stories of good act as force multipliers of positive change. Here is one such touching story of a former child labourer, Malleshwar, who went to bed hungry but now ensures that 2,000 to 3,000 people in Hyderabad don’t suffer the same fate each day.“I used to struggle to get a single meal. But for the last 12 years, I’ve been feeding thousands,” says Malleshwar. Born to daily-wage workers, his childhood was marked by hardship and hunger. There were days when he had nothing to eat, surviving only on water. With support from an NGO, he managed to finish school. To pay for college, he worked as a waiter —juggling work, studies, and survival.It was during one such event, catering to over 500 guests, that he had a life-changing realisation. Watching heaps of food go to waste, he called his friends and suggested they distribute the leftovers to those in need. They laughed at him. “First fill your own stomach, then think about others,” they told him.&nbsp;<div class="video-responsive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TzdpKNoP5Cg" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>&nbsp;But Malleshwar knew the pain of sleeping hungry. He didn’t let the mockery stop him. That moment sparked the birth of his movement: Don’t Waste Food. Every day since, he and a small team of friends collect excess food from weddings, parties, hostels, and corporate events. With just a scooter, they now feed thousands daily. “If we had a four-wheeler, we could reach even more people,” he says.During the COVID-19 pandemic, Malleshwar stepped up further—feeding stranded migrant workers, families of hospital patients, and children in slums. “Everyone can do something,” he insists. “If you have a few extra rotis, don’t throw them away—feed someone in need.
